INNOVATIONS

R&D and Technology Development Centers
Sveza SmartLine
Peeling defects detection scanner
Veneer splicing method
Detection method for timber defects
“Plycounter” mobile app
KAMA Pharma coated FBB
In 2018, Sveza set up two technology development centers, and in 2021, announced the launch of a R&D center in St. Petersburg.

Dedicated to the development, evaluation, and implementation of innovative solutions, Sveza’s R&D facilities have modeled several different types of plywood and wood panels, developed innovative glue and resin formulas, and created several machine vision and AI-based solutions.

Over more than 30 years of history, Sveza has gained extensive experience and knowledge in manufacturing processes, equipment, and innovations. In 2024, the company created a new subdivision dedicated to the development and implementation of AI-based technology.

Today, Sveza has developed and patented more than a dozen proprietary methods and technologies, some of which substituted foreign technology that had been removed from the Russian market, and others are unique in the world.

The company’s innovative solutions provide optimized characteristics, are cost-efficient and suitable for application in many industries, not only in woodworking.
In 2021, Sveza patented an online scanning process for the real-time detection of veneer peeling defects.

Designed to be integrated with the production process, the scanner helps reduce peeling defects by 90% and increase the output of high-grade products by 3%.
Commissioned in 2022, the veneer splicing line joins random size veneer pieces to produce full-size veneer sheets. The proprietary process produces seamless joints by splicing veneer pieces end-to-end without a glue thread.

The resulting veneer sheets can be used for facing high-grade plywood.
In 2023, Sveza developed a unique method that uses a precision neural network and machine vision for the quick and accurate detection and classification of timber defects in real time, helping process operators improve process monitoring and control and minimize downtime.
In 2024, Sveza patented a unique tool for real-time counting of bundled sheet material.

The counting method in the form of a mobile app uses a combination of machine vision techniques for precise counting of bundled sheet material of any size and thickness within a few seconds, and works even in low-light conditions.

It can be applied not only in plywood manufacturing, but also in many other industries using sheet material and preshaped forms, such as the iron and steel industry.
The coated FBB production was launched at KAMA in 2023. It is paperboard specially developed for the pharmaceutical industry, with brightness at 95% (4 units higher than regular standard) and gloss at 45%.

KAMA Pharma coated FBB has uniform structure and very smooth surface, which enables high color accuracy and excellent performance for post-printing processes, including hot and cold foil stamping, embossing, debossing, and various varnishing techniques.

KAMA Pharma has optimum characteristics for the efficient performance of high-speed packaging processes, including filling and DataMatrix marking. KAMA Pharma is available in grammages ranging from 215 gsm to 380 gsm. KAMA Pharma coated FBB is a popular choice for premium packaging applications.

Kuwait’s tallest building, the 414-meters-high asymmetrical tower of Al Hamra in Kuwait City was built in 2011. This unusual building with a solid wall facing south was designed with both aesthetic and practical functions in mind: maximizing waterfront views and protecting the people inside from the scorching sun.

Bold architectural solutions require reliable construction materials such as film-faced shuttering plywood by Sveza. In high-rise construction projects, shuttering plywood sheets experience loads up to 8 tons per square meter. SVEZA Film-faced is up to the task!
Sayano-Shushenskaya Dam modernization project Yenisei River, near Sayanogorsk in Khakassia, Russia

Application: Slab shuttering

Product: SVEZA Film-faced

The Sayano-Shushenskaya Dam is Russia’s largest power plant with the total installed capacity more than 6,000 MW. Water pressure for the 240-meters-high dam is approximately 32 million tons. The dam has two spillways designed to achieve an output of up to 17,000 tons of water per second—almost three times the amount of water of the Niagara Falls!

The modernization of the dam was a large-scale strategic national project. SVEZA plywood was chosen for the construction work due to its unmatched strength and moisture resistance ensuring reliable performance in demanding conditions.

Resorts World Sentosa Sentosa Island, Singapore

Application: Wall shuttering

Product: SVEZA Film-faced

Resorts World Sentosa is an integrated resort complex on the island of Sentosa in Singapore, which includes hotels, restaurants, luxury stores, amusement parks, theme parks, casinos, and museums. One of Singapore’s main attractions, the resort occupies approximately 50 hectares of land and can host over 35,000 visitors at any one time.

The construction began in 2005 and finished in 2012. SVEZA Film-faced plywood was one of the main construction materials used to build this gem of tropical architecture, as it is highly resistant to moisture and mold and delivers excellent performance in demanding conditions.
Skolkovo Management School Moscow, Russia
